I'll be displaying and selling new pieces of Skeeryvilletown artwork at Ravencon, a science fiction/fantasy/horror convention in Richmond, April 25-27. I'll post more details soon, along with a sneak peek at some of the new art.

Sorry I've been away so long. Writing has taken a great deal of my time, but I've dusted off the watercolor paper, found my paints and pens, and am ready to wield them once again.

Necon Recovery!

Your Name in Skeeryvilletown and My Trip to Necon!

Hi All!

I'm going to be on a blogging hiatus from today through July 25...I am getting ready to go to Necon (a FANTASTIC horror convention in Rhode Island) and so between now and when we leave on July 18th, I'll be doing pictures for the Necon art show and won't be able to list any new ones here on my Skeeryvilletown blog.

However, I do want to make an offer! If anyone would like a commissioned piece of Skeeryvilletown artwork with YOUR NAME ON IT, just give me a holler at emvirginia@yahoo.com . These make cool gifts for yourself or any other person who likes things on the strange side.

The name pictures will be similar to those above, featuring 3 or 4 Skeeryvilletown citizens of your choice. The current citizens are:

3-Eyed Devil Cat the sideshow freak
StinkySquare Eyes the cat
Fire Breathing Dog O' Death the other sideshow freak
Boo Boy the large ghost
Bit O' Boo the little ghost

The price is $30 for names 4 or less letters, $40 for names 5 letters or more; you pick the color for the lettering - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, gray, pink, or purple. I'll add other spooky odds and ends to "flesh it out." Each picture comes matted and will be completed and delivered within three weeks of the order's placement. Shipping (USA) is first class and depending on the size of the artwork will run between $3.50 - $4.50, no more.

Stinky Square Eye's Friends Play Hide and Go Seek

Hope everybody is having a nifty-neato 4th. I've been busy...just switched over to an incredible new computer, a gift from my honey Cort!!! It's a MacBook, with a brand new flat-screen LCD exterior display. I've been setting it up and learning how to do stuff, and now I think it's starting to make some sense. "Almost Heaven"? Time Will Tell...

I'm leaving for West Virginia early this morning with my sister, my mom, and my 13-year-old niece, all crammed into my little PT Cruiser. Why? Well, some of my mom's father's side of the family came from WV, somewhere around Charleston, and Mom is having one of those "gotta look at my roots" kind of deal going on. None of the family still lives there, we don't think. They all crawled east over the mountains into Virginia about 100 years ago. We'll be driving 3 1/2 hours to see, well, gravestones and maybe some old houses that haven't been torn down. We're staying in a cheap motel that doesn't have a pool (the niece will be less than thrilled). When I booked it I was going for inexpensive and at that point in time, the niece wasn't coming along. Anyhoo, we'll come home late tomorrow night.

My point of posting this terribly enthralling note is to say I won't be here to post a new Skeeryvilletown picture today and very likely not tomorrow. I will resume Sunday. Wish me luck on the jaunt. At the very least I hope to return with a new touristy t-shirt or coal mine snowglobe.

Hi All!

Today I'll be hitting the ground running...I'm researching my next nonfiction book this morning, going to see Evan Almighty this afternoon in Charlottesville at a special "Cast & Crew" showing (in spite of the crappy reviews it's gotten, I love this movie; it's funny and sweet and the animals are total honeys!) When I get back I have to come up with two new novel concepts and work on a short story that is due Friday. Will I make it through today in one piece? Only time will tell. If so, I will post another Monster-A-Day tonight on a separate post. If not, I'll try to pull my brain back inside my head and my organs back inside my body so I can get back to regular art posting tomorrow.

Summer Dippin' in Skeeryvilletown

Takin' Friday Off for da Movies!

No Skeeryvilletown post today; been out of town (Charlottesville) to see a matinee of Evan Almighty, in which my SO Cortney Skinner, my sister Barb, my daughter Erin, and my son-in-law Ben are extras. LOVED IT!!!! My car gets more "on screen time" than any of the extras I know, but that's cool! If you see the film, watch the scene when Wanda Sykes and crew get out of their car in the Huntsville neighborhood to see the ark. My car is the little silver PT Cruiser right in front of them. Even my license plate - IRITGUD - shows up! I'm visible briefly in the very early scene showing Evan campaigning in the park and then dancing during the end credits. But hey, we had a ball being involved and the movies was wonderful! Going to see the movie again tonight in Staunton with Matt and Deena Warner (who was also an extra!) and some other folks.

Ooops, I didn't get to my Monster-A-Day today...! Bad me. Bad, bad me. Been working on a couple short stories with upcoming deadinlines. However, I'll get it on (!) tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Here you can find merchandise featuring the gorgeous painting (as seen above) he did of the ark in the new Steve Carell film, Evan Almighty. Cort and I worked as extras on the movie for a period of 2 1/2 months last spring and early summer (absolute fun!) and while on site, Cort was asked by the director to make a painting of the ark. Cort's finished portrait was a hit with Tom Shadyac and many of the actors including Carell, Lauren Graham, and Ed Helms. Welcome to Skeeryvilletown!

Whoo Hoo, I've Started a Blog-Thing! My name is Elizabeth (Beth) Massie, a two-time Bram Stoker Award-winning author of horror novels and collections (including Sineater, Welcome Back to the Night, Wire Mesh Mothers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Power of Persuasion, Shadow Dreams, A Little Magenta Book of Mean Stories, Homeplace, etc.) and numerous short stories. I've been writing and publishing with some of the best houses out there since 1984, and while I still love gettin' down and gritty with words, I also adore wielding ink and watercolor. And while my writings tend to be edgy and often graphic, my artwork leans toward the goofy and lighthearted.

What the Hell is Skeeryvilletown? Skeeryvilletown is a fictional world I created about four years ago when I began chasing the cartoony monsters out of my head and delegating them to a 2-D existence on paper - vampires, ghosts, carnival freaks, werewolves, skeletons, witches, mutant rats and cats, and other assorted bizarre-ites. And in those few years, the citizens of Skeeryvilletown have made a mark; the artwork has sold like wild at conventions and online. Pirate Monsters...I Take On a New Challenge!! Beginning tonight, I am going to create one new piece of Skeeryvilletown art each day and share it with you guys (to view or to purchase) via Ebay. Though I won't always create to a theme, I'm all into pirates right now and so my first pieces will be "Monster Pirates." I'm not sure which direction I'll go first but I think it's gonna be a 3-Eyed Devil Cat piece or a ghosty pirate piece. Arrrgh!!!!
